Challenge 42

Did you know that hundreds of thousands of children are trapped in slavery and are being exploited across Africa? In Kenya, children are trafficked for domestic servitude and sexual exploitation as well as forced labour, forced begging and forced marriage. According to the Global Slavery Index, it’s estimated that just two per cent of trafficking victims in Kenya ever make it back home. A decade after we first started working in Kenya, we are launching Challenge 42, where we are joining together to make the 4,200-mile journey from London to Nairobi as we step up our efforts to bring freedom to Kenya. The vision is simple – we want to expand our work in Kenya and reach, rescue and restore more lives across this nation. Can you take the challenge?

Sadly a 4,200-mile journey for one person is a little difficult, but that’s where the power of partnership comes in. We’re asking you to adopt 42 miles (67km) of the journey and walk, run, cycle or swim your leg during the month of July in the location of your choice. We’re asking anyone of any age anywhere in the world to step up, take the challenge and help us reach our £100,000 target towards the vision to expand our work amongst victims of exploitation in Kenya.

In July we’ll be regularly updating our Challenge 42 Milometer every day as we walk, run, cycle and swim towards freedom. Towards the end of July, our founder and CEO Becky Murray will travel to Kenya where she will complete a 42-mile walk to One By One’s headquarters. She will be joined for the final mile by children and staff in One By One’s programme as they cross the finish line together and celebrate the last decade of lives changed but look forward to the future, where we will keep fighting to end exploitation in Kenya.
