Kenya

Family

The doors to One By One Kenya opened in 2012. The project cost £150,000 (almost $200,000), and has provided not only a beautiful residential facility for local children, but two schools also. We have almost 200 boys and girls in our care – many who live at the centre and others who attend daily for meals and education as part of our Homebase project.

Social workers stated in their report that many of the children in One By One’s care were previously at risk of starvation, child labour, rape and even torture. It is truly heartbreaking to consider what some of these children have endured. But through care and compassion, One By One has seen transformation in their lives, giving them safety, stability and, most importantly of all, love.

Education

A vital part of any child’s growth is education, and we were delighted to open King’s School in conjunction with our home in 2012. Through the generosity of people throughout the world, we are able to employ skilled teachers, teach from national curriculum in a caring and loving environment and prepare children for their future careers. King’s School has exceeded its expectations – coming first in our region in the exam league tables – and wealthier families have started paying to send their children there.

I might not be able to change the world, but I can change one person’s world.
